Britain is deploying Typhoon jets and a frigate to shadow the Admiral Kuznetsov, which is accompanied by a Russian cruiser and salvage tug, the ministry said.

Moscow criticised the escort and accused Fallon of hitting out at the Russian navy in a bid to distract the British public.

“The aim of this type of statement and the ‘show’ performed by the naval escort of our vessels is designed to turn the attention of British taxpayers away from the real state of Britain’s military fleet,” Igor Konachenkov, spokesman for the Russian defence ministry, said in a statement.

“I would like to point out that in the first place, the Russian military vessels did not require this kind of senseless escort, they know how to find their way through this stretch of sea.

“And secondly, we recommend, Mr Fallon, you pay more attention to the British fleet, as the English press have for good reason also stressed,” he added.

Black Sunday: Minister Of Sports, Solomon Dalung’s Wife, Naomi Dies (Photos)

In yet another shocking news which emerged online this Sunday morning, the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has taken to his Facebook to announce that his first wife has passed on.

The minister who did not give details of her death, said, “For it is appointed for man to live thereafter comes death and judgment says the Holy Bible. While in the Quran, it states that it is appointed that every soul shall taste death.

“My heart is heavy, I cannot continue, I lost my first wife this morning. May her soul and the souls of faithful departed rest in the bosom of the Lord, amen. What a black Sunday.”

This is the first time the sports minister will hint that he has more than one wife. During his time as the Chairman of Langtang South Local Government, he was reported to have elevated Naomi, the mother of his six children, as his First Lady.

No other details of his wife was open to the public until today, as he announced the passing of his first wife.

See What Niger Delta Will Lose As Shell Relocates Corporate Headquarters To Lagos

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has condemned and described as provocative the plan by Anglo-Dutch multinational oil company, Shell, to move its corporate headquarters from Port Harcourt, Rivers state in the Niger Delta to Lagos, South west Nigeria.

The IYC Spokesman, Eric Omare, told NAIJ.com that this move by Shell is not only insensitive but capable of escalating the already volatile security situation in the Niger Delta region.

Omare said while critical stakeholders are making frantic efforts to restore peace and security to the already volatile Niger Delta region orchestrated by wrong policies of Shell and its allies in the Nigerian government, the company is planning another move that would worsen the security situation in the region.

According to him, the IYC is aware of the plan of Shell which is to substantially sell off its onshore assets, maintain only crude oil transportation and storage facilities and operate the lucrative EA and Bonga offshore oil fields located in the Niger Delta from Lagos by carrying its workers through helicopter on daily basis.

He said this plan clearly demonstrates the anti-community and Niger Delta nature of Shell.

It was such anti-oil producing communities policies by Shell, Chevron, Exxon Mobil and other multinationals operating in the Niger Delta that gave birth to the present restiveness in the volatile region.

Omare said the implication of Shell relocating its corporate headquarters from the region to Lagos is that the region would lose all the economic and other associated benefits that come with having a corporate headquarters in the region.

The Niger Delta states would not only lose revenue but even business moguls doing business with Shell will have to move from the Niger Delta to Lagos with the attendant negative economic effects.

To this end, the IYC is calling on Shell to halt its plan or be ready to completely move out of its offshore oil platforms located in the Niger Delta namely: EIA and Bonga offshore oil fields.

“These are the oil fields that Shell intends to operate from Lagos through transportation of workers on helicopter on a daily basis so as to avoid its corporate responsibilities to Niger Delta communities affected by its operations,” Omare said.

He added that if the company insisted on moving its corporate headquarters from the Niger Delta to Lagos, it must also be ready to move out from the EA and Bonga offshore oil fields.

Emir Sanusi Sends Strong Message To Islamic Clerics In Nigeria As Violence Spreads

The emir of Kano state, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has warned Islamic clerics in Nigeria to stop hate messages when preaching to Muslim faithful.

His advice follows the violence that has taken over some parts of the country including southern Kaduna.

While some people describe the mayhem as having to do with the Fulani herdsmen and the natives, others think it is religious.

Apart from the admonition to preach peace, the emir asked the Islamic clerics to work towards having harmonious co-existence with people of other religions.

According to him, hate preaching is against the tenets of Islam.

The Punch reports that the emir said this while giving a sermon at the inauguration of an ultra-modern mosque at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger state, on Friday, January 28, 2017.

He frowned against a situation where some Muslim clerics use the opportunity of their positions to set one part of the society against the other.

Immigrants And Refugees Left Stranded At Airports After Trump’s Ban On Muslims

President Donald Trump’s order to restrict people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States sparked confusion and anger on Saturday after immigrants and refugees were kept off flights and left stranded in airports.

In his most sweeping decision since taking office a week ago, Trump, a Republican, put a four-month hold on allowing refugees into the United States and temporarily barred travelers from Syria and six other countries.

Civil rights and faith groups, activists and Democratic politicians were furious and vowed to fight the order.
Capping a day of confusion and chaos and protests in several airports across the country, a federal judge in Brooklyn, New York, granted a temporary reprieve. The American Civil Liberties Union successfully argued for a temporary stay that allowed detained travelers to stay in the United States.

Supporters outside the Brooklyn courtroom and at protests at airports in Dallas, Chicago, New York and elsewhere cheered the decision, but a bigger fight lay ahead.

The court action does not reverse Trump’s order, which was criticized by some of America’s closest allies.

Trump, a businessman who successfully tapped into American fears about terror attacks during his campaign, had promised what he called “extreme vetting” of immigrants and refugees from areas the White House said the U.S. Congress deemed to be high risk.

He told reporters in the White House’s Oval Office on Saturday that his order was “not a Muslim ban” and said the measures were long overdue.

“It’s working out very nicely. You see it at the airports, you see it all over,” Trump said.

Along with Syria, the ban affects travelers with passports from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

The Department of Homeland Security said about 375 travelers had been affected by the order, 109 of whom were in transit and were denied entry to the United States. Another 173 were stopped by airlines before boarding.

New President Elect Barrow Renames The Gambia, Says It’s A REPUBLIC, Not Islamic Republic

The Gambian President Adama Barrow said Saturday that every aspect of his tiny west African state would need an overhaul after ex-leader Yahya Jammeh’s 22-year rule, but that its dreaded secret police would remain.

Barrow faces an uphill task after taking over from Jammeh, who left behind a dysfunctional economy and allegedly emptied state coffers ahead of his departure.

Rights group blame the notorious National Intelligence Agency (NIA) under his longtime control for forced disappearances and torture.

Barrow said the NIA was “an institution that has to continue”, but that its name would be changed and training would be given to its operatives.

“The rule of the law, that will be the order of the day,” he said.

Barrow also addressed one of Jammeh’s most controversial declarations, from 2015, that The Gambia was an “Islamic republic”.

Barrow, in contrast, insisted the country — whose population is 90 percent Muslim, with the rest Christian and animist — was a republic, “not the Islamic republic”.

Civil servants would likely return to a five-day work week, breaking with Jammeh’s rule that Friday was a day off in line with his Islamic republic rules.

“My government is going to look at every avenue and there will be a complete overhaul of the system,” Barrow said, speaking at his first press conference since arriving back from Senegal.

The president promised his cabinet would be named early next week so that he could “get the ball rolling”, adding he would receive the first comprehensive information about the state of the nation’s finances also on Monday or Tuesday.
